SOS stands for Share our Selves. It is an important non-profit volunteer based organization which has served the impoverished    and working poor populations of Orange County for more than 35 years. They provide free assistance to those in need of basic living essentials such as food, medical and dental services and financial aid.

The students and staff at Lincoln support this organization by holding monthly food drives, adopting families during the holidays and holiday toy drive. Each month a different grade level brings in donations for the food drive. Each December the 5th and 6th grade classes adopt a family for the holidays. There is a giving tree in the library during the month of December where other students can volunteer to bring in a present for a child.

The students at Lincoln learn so much about giving to the community through this program. The younger children look forward to going shopping with mom to help pick out the items they are going to place in the SOS bin in their classrooms. Parents get daily reports on what type of food the bin is filled with. In the upper grade the children work together in groups to come up with the right gifts to buy for their adopted families. The parents are encouraged to let their children earn money doing chores and helping out to pay for these gifts. They are encouraged to let the children go shopping and use the money they have earned to pay for these gifts.

Listed below are some suggested items that are always needed. Children can bring the non-perishable items to school and place them in the bins in each of the grade level classrooms for the monthly drive. Thank you in advance for joining in this worthwhile project.
